Pretty Blooms - Growing Hearts

In this season of life I'm learning that God can't be my refuge or my strength if I don't seek Him, if I don't pray, if I don't read His word or hide it within my heart. I've heard a quote somewhere "bloom where you are planted" but flowers don't bloom without watering, sunshine and pruning.

"Though You Slay Me" - #hymnart

Some of you have seen my (sort of new) Instagram #hymnart hobby and because it's so difficult to try and squeeze everything into 60 seconds on there I thought I'd put this longer version here. I really am enjoying painting again and look forward to Lord willing doing more in the future. Enjoy!

Mother's Day - A Letter of Forgiveness to My Absent Mother

Dear Mom,

I never really quite understood Mother's Day. The flowers, gifts and cards. The Facebook status' of devoted love from people young and old expressing their love and thanks to their moms. It never quite clicked for me. We've missed out on quite a few holidays, birthdays and Mother's Days. I know you feel guilty about that. And I understand, but if I'm being honest I've always

Sexual Abuse Survivor Resources

There is nothing more important than the word of God. I truly and honestly believe that but I struggled for years wondering where and how I could find something or someone to tell me how to actually deal with the abuse I had gone through. None of the things you see above here will be "it", the thing that makes it all go away, that makes it all make sense. These resources all point you to a God who works sometimes slower

Depression - Day 5 - The Benefits of Sorrow

Can we really say that? When I think of the best things that's happened to me I immediately think of salvation, my husband, my daughter, my church family etc. By nature I don't include in that list, having been sexually abused as a child, having had a miscarriage, having autoimmune diseases etc. In my own heart I have equated blessing as best and sorrow as not. So are there? Are there really any benefits to sorrow and heartache in our lives?

Depression - Day 4 - Natural Helps & Spiritual Helps

“An ointment for every wound, a cordial for every faintness, a remedy for every disease. Blessed is he who is well skilled in heavenly pharmacy and knows how to lay hold on the healing virtues of the promises of God.” -Charles Spurgeon

If you are depressed what can you do to ease the burden of your sorrow? There is nothing we can do to actually get rid of depression but there are things that can help.

Depression - Day 3 - When No One Understands

“Especially judge not the sons and daughters of sorrow. Allow no ungenerous suspicions of the afflicted, the poor, and the despondent. Do not hastily say they ought to be more brave, and exhibit a greater faith. Ask not - ‘why are they so nervous, and so absurdly fearful?’ No…. I beseech you, remember that you understand not your fellow man.” -Charles Spurgeon

One of the hardest, if not the hardest thing to go through while wrestling with depression, is the questions.

Depression - Day 2 - Depression & Our Circumstances

The mind can descend far lower than the body, for in it there are bottomless pits. The flesh can bear only a certain number of wounds and no more, but the soul can bleed in ten thousand ways, and die over and over again each hour. -Charles Spurgeon

In this Christian life no one can escape the the road of hard circumstances. We will all be called to some degree or another to tread through deep waters.

Depression - Day 1 - What is Depression

“We very speedily care for bodily diseases; they are too painful to let us slumber in silence; and they soon urge us to seek a physician or a surgeon for our healing. Oh, if we were as much alive to the more serious wounds of our inner man.” -Charles Spurgeon

“How do we get through them? The times that knock the breath out; when even our strongest and bravest must confess with desolate eyes,

Psalm 90:12

So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. -Psalm 90:12

Lord, teach us to number our days (Ps. 90:12); Lord, give us grace duly to consider how few they are, and how little a while we have to live in this world.”

Note, 1. It is an excellent art rightly to number our days, so as not to be out in our calculation, as he was who counted upon many years to come when, that night, his soul was required of him.

Count it all Joy

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Psalm 23:1-3

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. What are these "green pastures" but the Scriptures of truth -- always fresh, always rich, and never exhausted? There is no fear of biting the bare ground where the grass is long enough for the flock to lie down in it. Sweet and full are the doctrines of the gospel; fit food for souls, as tender grass is natural nutriment for sheep.
